Here’s a Very Important Way You Can Help

Those We Serve in Day Services at EnAble!

Day Services at both of EnAble’s headquarters at North Fulton and at South Fulton are in need of folding or accordion walls to help separate activities and people served so they can better focus on their work or activities throughout the day.  Why do we need walls, especially as we are planning on spending more and more time doing everyday activities in the community, increasing and building our community connections? There are many reasons and here are some:

Even if the building on some days is more of a train depot where people arrive and depart to various places during the day, having at least one wall dividing the big area will decrease confusion and noise during this time.

Then, of course there will be times when all 30 are in the building along with 6 or 7 support associates. Imagine a wide open space with people of greatly varying needs sharing this space. Even though there are groups, a lot of distraction is created by always hearing everyone else’s conversation and sounds as they go about different tasks.

Naturally, since we support people and the choices they make, there are many times that more than one activity is going on in the Day Services area at North and South at the same time. Being able to separate people for different tasks or programming would be very helpful.

There are those who have a low tolerance for noise in the same room with people who enjoy lots of noise. Now, imagine if you were someone who could not stand certain noises, but had to on a daily basis share space with someone that gets loud in various ways. I think by the end of the day, you may feel a bit edgy.

Also, what if you daily had to share space with someone that you just don’t really get along with? Having a wall between you may be a great stress reducer making for a much calmer day.

So regardless of our growing community connections, there will be rainy days or days that perhaps a lot of folks just don’t want to go anywhere. There will be mornings and afternoons with many people in the buildings at the same time, so having at least 1 wall at each location (North and South Fulton Day Services area) would be a true blessing. Our preference would be to have folding walls which could be put in place at some times and retracted at others when group activities are planned. The flexibility this would allow would be most helpful!

A Partnership Opportunity for You
with EnAble of Georgia. . .

Thanks to the dedication of many who have worked so hard here for so many years, EnAble has a rich heritage of twenty-six years of valuable and effective service to adults with developmental disabilities. We are very thankful that we are thought to be one of the very best agencies of our type in the state and nation. EnAble is one of the few agencies in the country that has received back to back Three Years with Distinction Accreditations from The Council on Quality and Leadership. The past is not necessarily a prelude to the future, unless we work very hard to preserve that which is good and even harder to make what is good even better. Because of the fact that many of those served at EnAble have been with us for many years, their advancing ages is bringing with it a need for specialized services and programming that is meaningful and appropriate for them.

Also, because the North Fulton headquarters facility and the residences owned by EnAble are getting older as well, many of them are in need of significant repairs to keep them safe for use by the individuals we serve. Funding has been tight at EnAble for many years due to the fact that there has only been one 4% increase in state Medicaid funding in the last sixteen years. As a result, neglected or postponed repairs that could have been simple at one time have become major in many cases. There is a need for special fundraising to help make it possible for these matters to be corrected.

Repairs Needed at EnAble’s North Fulton

Headquarters Facility

Inspection was also done by Sam Creech of Creech

Solutions for Construction, LLC.  It outlines significant

repairs needed at the building where EnAble’s

administrative offices and Day Services programs

are located.   These repairs are needed to make the

building water tight and safe for regular use.

The windows, walls, and roof have significant areas

of water leakage, including the most serious leak

in the room where the electric power and

meters, phone equipment, and computer

network equipment is located.  Estimated

costs for repairs are $27,106.43.

We also need to hook the office building up to Roswell’s sewer system since it is now available on Old Ellis Road.  Cost estimates for this are $18,000.

Providing Additional Day Services Facilities at EnAble’s North Fulton Headquarters Facility
by Completing the Building Out of the Remaining Warehouse Space

On the next slide, you’ll find a floor plan for the proposed build out of the remaining warehouse space at EnAble’s Office Building at 1200 Old Ellis Road in Roswell, Georgia.  The build out will enable EnAble to have additional classroom space for use in Day Services to provide areas for specialized training for those in the Supported Employment Program.

The build out will also provide for a much enlarged training room for staff training and Day Service use as well, with flexible space with a moveable wall in the center of the room.  Proposed Cost: $224,974.18.

Repairs Needed at EnAble’s Group Homes
in North and South Fulton County

Creech Solutions for Construction, LLC had also done a thorough review of EnAble’s other Group Homes in the North Fulton area. Gerald Simmons & Associates (A Consulting, Building, and Mechanical Inspection Service) was hired to do a similar analysis on EnAble’s Group Homes in South Fulton County.

Detailed inspection reports are now available. The North Fulton and South Fulton Group Homes are in need of significant repairs that have been deferred for too many years. None of these repairs are for cosmetic concerns like painting, carpeting, vinyl, or new furnishings, while many such things as these are needed. All of them are for structural and safety concerns.

The following are estimates of costs for repairs and projected maintenance in the next couple of years at EnAble’s North Fulton Group Homes.  These will be prioritized and done on a critical needs basis.

Programming Changes Needed to Meet the Needs

of Individuals Served by EnAble, Who Are Advancing in Age

Once those individuals who are requesting and in need of specialized Day Services programming due to their advancing ages can be located at the Respite House, three new Day Service staff members who are trained in working with older consumers with developmental disabilities will be added and trained to meet their particular needs, desires, and goals.  This kind of specialized service staff will not be covered by state or Medicaid funding.  Plans call for a much larger range of available activities, outings, craft projects, and opportunities to pursue individual desires at this stage in their lives as well.
